While Imports by Wilphil was formally founded in 2019, the story of the company began long before that. It is, at its core, the story of its founder, Wilson Langat, a lifelong automobile trader who still runs the business today alongside his son, Regan Langat, and a trusted network of clearing agents, logistics partners, and dealerships in Japan.
2012
THE SPARK
Wilson Langat exports entering the matatu industry. High local dealership markups push him to research direct vehicle imports from Japan.
2013
FIRST IMPORT
Wilson imports his first vehicle. The experience comes with costly lessons—incorrect model year and clearing challenges—laying the foundation for deep knowledge.
2014 – 2018
BUILDING FOUNDATIONS
Armed with experience, Wilson begins importing for associates, building strong relationships with Japanese dealerships and logistics partners.
